Walking Humbly

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8
There seems to be a lot of confusion in the world today about the meaning of humble. I looked up synonyms humble and found unpretending and unpretentious. It’s clear that we are to be the real deal, not posers yet modest at the same time.

We who claim to be Christ’s followers have a great example of walking humbly. Jesus humbled himself in obedience to the Father every step of his life on earth. You may say “Yes but he was Jesus after all”. Yes that may be true but he was human as well. Remember in the garden when we was praying and struggling with the agony of knowing what was coming. He prayed asking God if there was any other way to accomplish the purpose. Yes, he struggled with what was being asked of him. In the end his prayer was not my will but yours. This was humility in obedience to the max.

How many times do we grumble when we don’t get acknowledged for a good deed we do?
How many times to we refuse to do what we feel God would have us do because it puts us too far out of our comfort zone?
How many times do we complain that life is too hard or just plain unfair?

We will have troubles in this world but it’s what we do in the midst of those troubles that shows our true heart. Do we cry foul or do we continue to be obedient and walk in humble submission?
God calls us to submit to him and exalt him above all else. This includes ourselves. If we are obedient in this way when troubles come our way we won’t have any question of what to do. We will have a source of peace and strength that is unmeasurable. True humility is required by God. It is an act of worship and shows our thankfulness for all he is.

I claim to be a Christ follower. Am I walking in humble obedience…………I wonder. We will be observing the Lord’s supper in the morning. I need to reflect on the sacrifice he made for me, humble myself before him and thank him for his obedience to the Father.
